Conference

The main aim of our conference realized between 16.05. 2008 and 18.05. 2008 was to look for answers - along different thematic blocks - to such topical questions as the role of religions in a “new” Europe, the relation between religious identity and the forming of new European identity, or the questions of religious freedom in the EU states. The selection of participants, committed to their academic work and from different nations has guaranteed that a constructive dialogue evolved among them as individuals as well as among the organisations and institutions represented by them. It also contributed to developing common long-term strategies. The conference offered possibilities for the participants to become acquainted with questions marked in the thematic description of programme, and to share their experiences with the participants from the newly joined states like Romania and Bulgaria.

Concerning the conference programme, the Re-Dial Association in co-operation with the Department for the Scientific Study Of Religion, announced a course for university students. During the lectures the students acquired new information about problems connectied to the conference topics and the seminars offered chance to discuss subjects linked to religious identity.

As planned, the working language of the conference was English. Based on the workplan, the lectures took place in the mornings and in the early afternoons in thematic blocks, which were further discussed within the framework of afternoon workshops. Workshops connected to the given topics, which were led by moderators, created an opportunity to exchange experiences and opinions and to deepen knowledge.

The project website (www.religionineurope.eu) contains the brief description of the project, the full programme of the event, contact information of the organisers and picture galleries of the photos taken during the three days of the event.
